One Southern Indiana adds director of talent development SOUTHERN INDIANA One Southern Indiana has added a new position to its staff that will concentrate on workforce talent development, one of the local economic development organization's top goals. Paul Holba, a former senior training consultant with NIKE in Memphis, Tenn., will be joining 1si as its new Director of Talent Development and Skills Up Partnerships on Monday, according to a news release. The position will involve developing, building and maintaining workforce talent development coordination services for 1si, the Region 10 Partners in the Skill UP Grant and the OSI Foundation. Talent development involves making sure that Southern Indiana has a workforce with the skills needed to support the businesses in the area. Manufacturer members of 1si have come to the organization with concerns that there aren't enough skilled employees in the area to fill their job openings, said Wendy Dant Chesser, the president and CEO of 1si. This problem has led some to avoid drug testing their employees so as not to narrow their employee pool further. It's also caused some members to turn down projects because they don't know if they'll have the workforce to carry them out, Dant Chesser said. About 20 percent of jobs in Clark, Floyd, Harrison, Scott, Crawford and Washington counties are in manufacturing, according to STATS Indiana making manufacturer's concerns important to 1si. "They've not been shy about telling One Southern Indiana, 'if you are going to be relevant to our business so that we're going to be a member of your organization, you better figure out how to help us with this," Dant Chesser said. Now, One Southern Indiana is helping. Holba will develop and head 1si's Talent Development Initiative, which will focus on the needs of the business community with regards to the increasing need for skilled labor. He'll be their voice in situations where they need to communicate with a talent development program provider. For example, if WorkOne was designing a talent development program, it would be easier for them to listen to just Holba instead of all the companies who nike zoom winflo 3 would use the program. 1si's talent development initiative will focus on manufacturing in the beginning, but Dant Chesser said she expects to see it extend to other industries in the future, such as healthcare or construction. Because Holba will also be building 1si's talent development initiative, the future of his position relies on the success of the program, but "Paul was the type of guy that said, 'I'll take that challenge,'" Dant Chesser said. Holba's job will also involve coordinating a $1.4 million grant from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development that will connect local schools and community organizations to develop training and education programs addressing area employer's needs. The Region 10 Skill UP Partners grant involves Greater Clark County Schools, West Clark Community Schools, the New Albany Floyd County nike 90 Consolidated School Corporation and the South Harrison Community School Corporation. The grant will bring advanced manufacturing curriculum to more of the high schools, connect more students to the Prosser Career Education Center, expand the partnership between WorkOne and Ivy Tech to identify and train more adults for careers in advanced manufacturing and include a federal apprenticeship program for area manufacturers, said Andrew Melin, superintendent of Greater Clark County Schools, in a statement. "It is a great deal of responsibility with far reaching positive effects for our community," Melin said about Holba's new position. "I am confident that Paul is the right man for this important endeavor and look forward to working with him." Holba was one of 60 people to apply and six to interview for 1si's new position. "I would say that Paul definitely rose to the top very quickly," Dant Chesser said. As a NIKE consultant, Holba led a training development team, which was responsible for developing current and new hiring training content for all employees located in the company's Memphis market distribution centers. Holba has experience at other companies besides NIKE, such as PPG Industries, Humana, Thornton's and BP. His position in many of those companies focused on creating learning environments, Dant Chesser said. He has also worked as a change agent, his wife is a school teacher (which might help him coordinate the Skills UP grant) and he understands the sense of urgency associated with his job, Dant Chesser nike p rod 2 shoes said.
